Best places to eat in Oxfordshire: The Cheese Shed in Nettlebed
OK, so when it comes to the best places to eat in Oxfordshire you might be thinking I’m going to reel off a long list of fine dining spots. And whilst there are plenty of those, sometimes a good old cheese toasty is all you need!
The Cheese Shed is part of Nettlebed Creamery in Henley-on-Thames, it’s only up the road from us and makes the perfect foodie accompaniment to a weekend dog walk. Since moving to Oxfordshire around a year ago we’ve definitely been checking out the local pub grub scene and there’s some tasty haunts on offer but sometimes , you just want something simple yet delicious.
What’s so great about The Cheese Shed is that it does one thing and one thing reeeeeally well… cheese toasties!
They are made from their multi-award winning cheese and oh my days, they are unreal. My husband and I have gone quite a few times and I have also taken my parents too. My dad proclaimed it was the best cheese toasty he’s ever had! And to be honest, I totally concur.
Alongside your cheese toasty you can grab kefir smoothies, ice cream, cakes and locally ground coffee made with their own unhomogenised, organic milk. We tend to drink oat milk so haven’t tried the coffee yet, so we usefully grab a kombucha to wash down the toasty with. The bread they use is local and from Cornfield Bakery in Wheatley.
They also have a little farm shop on site called ‘The Shed Shop’ which sells a wonderfully curated selection of treats from their own cheeses to breads, eggs, honey and pickles. My god do I love a farm shop.
This countryside setting serves up a very chilled affair there; you queue up, order your grub and sit down on the tables or hay bales to enjoy it. No frills or fuss, just friendly service and really good food, hence why it’s one of the best places to eat in Oxfordshire!
A Saturday spent roaming the Oxfordshire countryside followed by a cheesy delight at The Cheese Shed is a kinda perfect weekend for us. Parking is free and the surrounding fields are full of local walks so wrap up warm and enjoy this beautifully rural-ish set-up. Oh, it’s dog friendly too!
